Red Light and Blue Light Work Differently
Red light at 630 to 660 nanometers penetrates deeper into the skin. It reaches the dermis where collagen and elastin are produced. Red light is best for anti-aging, wrinkle reduction, and overall skin health. It reduces inflammation and promotes healing.
Blue light at 415 to 470 nanometers stays on the surface of the skin. It is absorbed by porphyrins produced by acne bacteria. This absorption destroys the bacteria. Blue light is primarily used for acne treatment. It is antimicrobial rather than anti-aging.
Near-infrared light at 810 to 850 nanometers penetrates the deepest. It reaches muscles, joints, and deeper tissues. Near-infrared is used for pain relief, inflammation reduction, and wound healing. It is not visible to the human eye.
Which One Should You Use
If your main concern is aging and wrinkles, use red light. If your main concern is acne, use a combination of red and blue light. The red calms inflammation while the blue kills bacteria. Many devices include both.
If your main concern is pain or muscle recovery, use near-infrared light. It penetrates deeper and reaches the tissues that need treatment. Some devices let you switch between red and near-infrared modes.
Most quality face masks include both red and near-infrared LEDs. This gives you the best of both. You get the surface benefits of red light and the deeper benefits of near-infrared in one session. Blue light is usually an added option.
Can You Use Them Together
Yes, you can use different wavelengths in the same session. Many devices cycle through multiple wavelengths automatically. The order does not matter much because the light is absorbed by different targets in your skin.
If you have a device with separate modes, you can do red light in the morning for skin health and near-infrared at night for deeper repair. Or combine them in one session. Both approaches work.
The important thing is to use the right wavelength for your specific concern. Buying a device that includes multiple wavelengths gives you flexibility to target different issues as your needs change.
